Strengths: Inexpensive, excellent performance

Weaknesses: none found

Summary: Have had this burner for a few weeks now used it many times. It is very fast (sounds like a jet engine when it spins up to speed!) and has not let me down once. The Nero express software included is very easy to use and has many useful features. I highly recommend this CD burner.

Strengths: super fast, reliable, CHEAP burner

Weaknesses: none

Summary: it is a very burner you'd ever need. fast and reliable. and its price is super reasonable. when it speeds up loudly, it makes loud noise as other burners do. this is normal, nothing to worry about.
I bought 2 when BestBuy had them on sale. LiteOn website has firmware updates, and it is very easy to update your LiteOn burner.

Strengths: Low price but high performance

Weaknesses: Noise while burning. A little bit flimsy drive bay door.

Summary: Some magazines recommended a plextor CDRW as the best.
But don't believe that kind of recommendation.
I had bought the plextor CDRW two times.
But each of them got out of order within 2 weeks.

I assure you that LITEON CDRW is better than Plextor's one.
In spite of the low price, its performance is marvelous.
High speed, easy installation, wonderful stability, firmware upgrade....
You can't find the better CDRW than this one.

Summary: I just upgraded from my 8x yamaha, and I knew this drive would be faster, but its speed blew me away. I have been very impressed with value and quality of lite-on products, and this drive does not disappoint. There is some noise when spinning, but I would say the noise levels are about normal. I have burned about 20 cd-r's without a single problem. For under $40, I do not think you can buy a better drive

Strengths: ease of installation, speed

Weaknesses: none yet

Summary: After my 3-year old sony stopped working I bought this unit on strength of product reviews. It's even better than reviews! Installed on my outdated 300mhz pentium II running Win98 in minutes w/o a hitch. Can't achieve more than 24x record speed (my sony only ran at 4x). Software determined max burn speed to be 16x for my system but I accidentally recorded at 24x and it still worked! This unit should easily reach 52x burn speeds on a decent computer. Nero software pretty good, but is not the full version. Haven't done any data record yet but don't expect any problems. Burned a dozen cd's on cheap media w/o problem. I consider it a bargain at $39 and see it now w/rebates for just $20! Get one, you won't be sorry.

Strengths: Reads copy protected CDs from Germany that I can't read in any other CD or DVD drive that I've own.

Weaknesses: None

Summary: I bought this drive after doing a lot of research trying to find a way to extract the audio files (to upload to my MP3 player) from several of my German CDs that have copy protection schemes which are designed to prevent their use in computers. In this particular type of protection, the drive spins for a while and then Windows reports back that it's an empty disk. Even with autoplay disabled, I was unable to read any of these disks. After trying several programs, I read a post by someone, who said to give the Lite-On drives a try as they don't seem to be effected by this kind of copy protection. Sure enough I swapped out my Samsung CDRW and after spinning for a while it finally came back and recognized it as a plain audio CD. I was then able to digitally extract the files without any problem.

Weaknesses: "Rebagged" as Norcent RW 531

Summary: I love this CDRW drive. Bought @ Best Buy for $19 w/ rebates. After installation, (set Slave on Primary IDE) then boot system up. Device Manager revealed as a Liteon LTR-52327S. HUH!! Not a Norcent drive. I tested it using Nero Burningrom 6.00.19. It sure burn Memorex CD-R 80min @ 52x speed!! Whoa! What a thunder! This is one of the best CDRW drive I ever have. I can't hear the noise hee hee (deafie guy). I have more CD R-W disks than CD-R cuz my old drive, Slowpokie Sony CRX-140 turned CD-R into coasters. Now I felt better using Liteon LTR-52327S without worrying about it spitting out a costers! Thanx Liteon, Shame on you Norcent for rebagging.

Strengths: Reliable, great value, easy to install

Weaknesses: Minimum instructions & info, nero software bundle is ok.

Summary: I read tons and tons of reveiew about all the burners available, and this was one of the highly recommended ones. It's really a great value for the price especially with its performance. Sure you can get burners dirt cheap, but this one is reliable! Nothing fancy about it, but it does its job. The nero bundle is pretty good for the average user, but I'd want one with more options.

Strengths: Very fast burner !!! Not a lot of coasters to toss out.

Weaknesses: Can be a little noisy, but nothing to cry about. Others are quieter. The DVD drives have a nice cushy ejection.

Summary: I've been buying Lite-on drives for a few years now for the great prices and the reliability. I have yet to have one fail, knock on wood, as I buy and install the drives as upgrades to older machines. Painless to put in, the retail ones always have some sort of software with it, and you could actually get two OEM's for the price of one retail if you look hard enough. I will stay with them for now.

Strengths: Cheap and easy to install - very fast

Weaknesses: Sounds like a jet taking off when spooling up.

Summary: Installed on a Dell 4100 as a secondary drive. This is a very fast drive read or write when it gets going, however it seems to take a long time to spool up which is supprisingly LOUD. Installing software or buring music/photos isn't the chore it was with the old 16X. Reliability to this point has been excellent. I pitched the software and I wish the door would open and close faster. Still for the price its tough to beat.
