April 20, 2004 07:58 - Model p3i_SEC records data from analog color cameras via 16 analog inputs, each of which contains separate A/D converter. Converters enable fast camera switching and use of mixed cameras with NTSC and PAL formats. Grabber offers on-board scaling function, PCI 2.2 support, and optional JPEG compression hardware. Images can be recorded in real-time, and saved in PC's main memory for further processing. Up to 3 images can be processed in parallel via 3-channel DMA.

New p31_SEC Frame Grabber from American Eltec is Specially Designed for Security and Monitoring Applications

Las Vegas, NV, December, 2003 - The new p3i_SEC frame grabber from American ELTEC is specially designed for security and monitoring applications. It is the newest member of ELTEC's extensive family of p3i frame grabbers, which are available for PCI buses or as PMC mezzanine cards.

The p3i_SEC frame grabber records the data from analog color cameras via 16 separate analog inputs, each of which contains a separate A/D converter, to provide fast switching over ensuring interruption-free display of all areas monitored by the cameras. It is ideal for optimizing the performance and functionality of observation and surveillance systems. The p3i_SEC offers an on-board scaling function (1:1 to 1:8), PCI 2.2 support, and optional JPEG compression hardware. Images can therefore be recorded in real-time, and saved in the PC's main memory for further processing, such as motion detection. Up to 3 images can be processed in parallel via 3-channel DMA.

The hardware design of the p3i_SEC frame grabber is based on FPGAs (Field Programmable Gate Arrays). Flexible specifications are possible by using these programmable logic components to control recording and DMA, making it possible to produce various solutions ranging from special image formats (e.g. planar 4-2-2 mode for simple motion detection) to real-time JPEG compression, which can be downloaded when starting the frame grabber.

The 16 A/D converters that make fast camera switching possible also enable the use of mixed cameras with NTSC and PAL formats, and to individually adjust the converter settings such as image size, brightness and contrast.

The p3i_SEC has a LINUX driver available in source code, an example of just how flexible the hardware is. The functionality of the driver is tailored to specific requirements of security applications: Acquisition buffers can be linked to a camera and a DMA channel can be switched over within the interrupt service routine.

In the context of its "Industrial LINUX" initiative, American ELTEC supports all current industrial and image processing products for simple and secure development of industrial applications in modern, flexible control and automation solutions. The comprehensive LINUX support provided by ELTEC enables time and cost savings for their customers during product development. Two mutually compatible LINUX platforms are offered: standard LINUX (e.g. from SuSE or Red Hat) as the host operating system for cross-development of industrial applications, and ELinOS as embedded LINUX.

Pricing for the p31_SEC with 4 inputs is $1200.
