Strengths: Sony Brand, Works great with my DSC-V1.

Weaknesses: Flash bracket need a hand holder for easy hold on both camera and the Flash.

Summary: Tested with wide and long angle using TTL Auto A. Results are remarkable. Highly recommended. Please make sure your camera is compatible to utilize all the functions in the Flash. It works perfect with my DSC-V1 5 Meg Pixel.

Strengths: This unit has a very high output full flash. Works very well with Sony F828.

Weaknesses: None

Summary: This high output flash makes flash photography possible for long distance shots. The built-in defussion lens helps spread the light for wide angle shots. Thanks to PriceGrabber we were able to purchase this at a good price.

Strengths: Light weight... hot shoe...

Weaknesses: Not rechargeable battery... poor manual...

Summary: I can't tell that much about this... I'm getting pics now... but I'm still learning to use it... manual definitely needs to improve... battery draws too fast, slowing down the shooting...

Strengths: Sony product, sony quality, TTL metering with F828.

Weaknesses: Poor instruction book. Works great with F828 in auto A (TTL) mode but over exposes with F828 in auto B (flash calculates exposure) mode. See comments for more.

Summary: (Edited March 30th by tomarmstrong13) Made to be compatible with the F828, if you have other Sony cameras (F707-717), forget it. If you have a F828 and want TTL flash metering this model is required, but if you want TTL metering preflash is required too!! Other flashes may work with the F828 but not TTL mode. Only fully compatible with F828, it does work well with my F707 in the auto B mode is a non-TTL aperature mode where the flash reads the exposure. Curiously it overexposes when used with the F828 in auto B mode!! My Nikon SB-22's and SB-30's work great in flash calculated exp mode with both my 707 and 828. Also in the auto B (flash aperature mode) there is no way to adjust the flash output level as in the SB-30, a real design flaw. Another problem, if the flash is to be used on a camera (F707-717) with a plain metal shoe, a piece of provided insulation tape must be put in the shoe to insulate the flash and prevent what the instructions call ""rub wound"".!!! _spelled correctly_
Conclusion, if you have a F828 and must have TTL flash then buy, otherwise get a generic or Nikon Aperature mode flash or wait 'till them put out the next model which hopefully corrects the shortcomings of this one.

Strengths: can use my flash with Sony wide angle lens

Weaknesses: no direct conection with my Sony MVC CD400 camera

Summary: Had a choose between the HVLF1000 but choose the one which has more features and it offered more bang for the buck. The flash pictures turned out great. Can use lots of different settings. Instuction manual needs to give more information on using this flash. Overall a great accessory to my camera.

Weaknesses: not found so far

Summary: there is not so many flashes for Sony digital cameras. this one is little better than F1000. The flash light is not moving horizontaly. that is only no good thing about this product.

Strengths: picture quality if fine but...........

Weaknesses: it eats up a fresh set of batteries VERY quickly, even NiMH fully charged. VERY SLOW RECYCLE TIMES!

Summary: Had to buy this flash when I upgraded from the F 505 to the F 828. One set of NiMH batteries in the flash made for the F 505 would last FOREVER with NO RECYCLE time but this flash eats up batteries very quickly and the recycle times after 10 shots or so are ridiculous! Would not buy this product or recommend it at all!
