BST Thermal Imager Uses PDA to Display, Store and Transfer Images and Data

ORLANDO, FL, April 2, 2002 - Raytheon Commercial Infrared (RCI) today announced the first shipments of its Radiometric 500D, a low-cost hand-held IR camera for real-time evaluation and measurement applications. The new system, employing Raytheon's new digital BST infrared electronics, integrates a Compaq iPAQ(TM) personal digital assistant (PDA) as a color display, image capture and communication interface.

By combining a radiometer and PDA users can capture infrared images and temperature data quickly and easily, even while working in remote work settings. The PDA allows users to import images and data for transmission via PC or wireless connection, sharing time-critical data across an enterprise.

Digital BST

The Radiometric 500D uses Raytheon's uncooled BST (barium strontium titanate) infrared technology. The Radiometric 500D employs a 320 x 240 uncooled BST focal plane array which can measure temperatures up to 300 degrees Celsius. Digital images are recorded and displayed in the iPAQ(TM). The use of digital technology offers improved imagery as well as more accurate and precise temperature measurement compared with conventional bolometer imagery.
