The First Alert FAW703 2.4 GHz Wireless B/W Video Surveillance Camera and 5-inch Monitor is a complete and incredibly simple solution for remotely monitoring a small area. Constructed as a wireless system, the monitor can receive a signal from up to 300 feet away (with a clear line of site), allowing the easy-to-install camera to be placed almost anywhere. The camera includes six IR (infrared) LEDs (light emitting diodes) for nighttime surveillance, allowing this system to provide you with a black-and-white image with a good resolution in a very compact package. The First Alert FAW703 monitor includes A/V (audio/video) outputs for recording, making it the perfect solution for when you want to avoid a professional-level installation and require a complete video surveillance unit for monitoring a room, entrance, or other areas in your home or business.

The First Alert FAW703 black-and-white monitor allows you to view an image with a resolution of up to 400 TVL (TV Lines) at center on its five-inch picture-tube screen. Utilizing a 0.33-inch black-and-white CMOS (complimentary metal-oxide semiconductor) image sensor, the First Alert FAW703's camera includes a 3.6mm fixed lens and delivers a decent resolution of 380 horizontal TVL. This camera can receive a usable picture even in no-light (0 Lux) conditions up to 10-feet away with its IR emitters. To make this system even more portable, the camera can run on four AA batteries while the monitor can run on 10 C batteries (not included). The First Alert FAW703 monitor runs on 13.5-volts DC power and has an operating temperature of 15- to 105-degrees Fahrenheit, while the camera consumes 1.5 watts and can operate in temperatures ranging from eight- to 144-degrees Fahrenheit.

About Surveillance Camera Technical Features
Lux rating is the measurement used to indicate how sensitive a camera is to light, and stands for the level of light reflected off a piece of paper by a candle from one meter away. Thus a sensitivity of three Lux would mean a camera could generate an acceptable picture of a piece-of-paper-sized object that was illuminated by the equivalent of three candles from one meter away. The lower the Lux level, the better the camera's ability to work in low-light conditions. The camera's resolution should be greater than or equal to the resolution supported by the system's recorder or monitor. The S/N, or signal to noise ratio, is an important measure of a camera's quality. A poor camera, low-light conditions or poor wiring causes "noise" which consumes processing power and disk space. A camera with a wide dynamic range is ideal, especially for recording areas in which both indoor and outdoor light are present. CCD (charge-coupled device) sensors provide high-quality images that are less susceptible to noise. CMOS (complimentary metal-oxide semiconductor) sensors offer less image quality, but are usually more cost-effective and energy efficient.
