Product Description

The First Alert FAW640 2.4 GHz Mini Wireless Color Camera and 4-inch LCD Monitor is a complete and incredibly simple solution for remotely monitoring a small area. Constructed as a wireless system, the monitor can receive a signal from up to 300 feet away (with a clear line of site), allowing the easy-to-install camera to be placed almost anywhere. This system provides you with a color image with decent resolution in a very compact package. The First Alert FAW640 monitor includes A/V (audio/video) outputs for recording, making it the perfect solution for when you want to avoid a professional-level installation and require a complete video surveillance unit for monitoring a room, entrance, or other area in your home or business.

The First Alert FAW640 color monitor allows you to view an image with a resolution of up to 350 TVL (TV Lines) at center on its 5.6-inch flat LCD screen. Utilizing a 0.33-inch color CMOS (complimentary metal-oxide semiconductor) image sensor, the First Alert FAW640's camera includes a 3.6mm fixed lens and delivers a decent resolution of 330 horizontal TVL. The camera includes a built-in rechargeable NiMH battery making it even more portable. The First Alert FAW640 monitor runs on 13.5-volts DC power and has an operating temperature ranging from 15- to 105-degrees Fahrenheit, while the camera is powered by five-volts DC and has an operating temperature of eight- to 144-degrees Fahrenheit.

Technical Features:

  • Resolution: monitor up to 350 TVL at center, camera 330 horizontal TVL
  • Monitor operating temperature: 15 to 105-degrees Fahrenheit
  • Monitor dimensions: 6.5 x 2.5 x 5.75 inches (W x D x H)
  • Camera operating temperature: 8 to 144-degrees Fahrenheit
  • Camera dimensions: 0.75 x 3.5 x 0.75 inches (W x D x H)
Designed primarily for indoor use, the First Alert FAW640 camera and monitor system deserves serious consideration as one of the most user-friendly, complete, and portable monitoring solutions that anybody can set up and operate without requiring a major installation. The FAW640's monitor includes a built-in four-position auto switcher that makes it compatible for use with up to four cameras, so you can expand this unit's capability to cover more rooms or larger areas. The First Alert FAW640's camera is easy to set up and use and includes a built-in microphone. User's should note that the CCD image sensor in the camera may become permanently damaged if exposed to long hours of direct sunlight or halogen light, so the camera should not be mounted or pointed directly at the sun or other bright-light sources.

About Surveillance Camera Technical Features
Lux rating is the measurement used to indicate how sensitive a camera is to light, and stands for the level of light reflected off a piece of paper by a candle from one meter away. Thus a sensitivity of three Lux would mean a camera could generate an acceptable picture of a piece-of-paper-sized object that was illuminated by the equivalent of three candles from one meter away. The lower the Lux level, the better the camera's ability to work in low-light conditions. The camera's resolution should be greater than or equal to the resolution supported by the system's recorder or monitor. The S/N, or signal to noise ratio, is an important measure of a camera's quality. A poor camera, low-light conditions or poor wiring causes "noise" which consumes processing power and disk space. A camera with a wide dynamic range is ideal, especially for recording areas in which both indoor and outdoor light are present. CCD (charge-coupled device) sensors provide high-quality images that are less susceptible to noise. CMOS (complimentary metal-oxide semiconductor) sensors offer less image quality, but are usually more cost-effective and energy efficient.
