Product Description

The Axis 2130R Color Pan/Tilt/Zoom Network Camera (Ceiling-mounted) offers a responsive pan/tilt movement, auto focus, and a powerful zoom controlled over IP networks such as a LAN or the Internet, making it ideal for surveillance and remote monitoring applications that require orientation and focus on different details. Offering pre- and post-alarm positioning within a compact design, the Axis 2130R is perfect for remotely monitoring people and property in buildings, offices, warehouses, retail outlets, and shopping.

The Axis 231D is a digital network camera that distributes superior-quality live video over an intranet or the Internet. With a built-in Web Server, the Axis 2130R allows remote surveillance from any browser (or browsers) on the network. This unit also provides full Web-based control of its many security, management and configuration functions, as well as its pan/tilt and zoom functions. The 231D connects directly to networks via a 10/100 BaseT/TX Ethernet connection, for faster and more secure service.

This camera utilizes a high-end 0.25-inch Sony ExView HAD CCD (charge-coupled device) sensor, with a resolution of 704-by-480 pixels and a minimum illumination of six Lux. The Axis 2130R comes with an auto focus lens which allows it to zoom at up to 16x optical. The unit's backlight compensation, automatic white balance, and automatic gain control ensure even higher picture quality. With five user-controlled video compression levels generating high-quality motion-JPEG video and JPEG still images, this camera can provide a frame rate of up to 30 frames-per-second (frames per second), equivalent to a 460-NTSC analog video. The Axis 2130R has 16 MB of RAM, four megabytes of which are available for pre/post alarm image storage, and four megabytes of internal flash memory that allows for simple firmware upgrades. Powered via a 13-volt external power cord (included), it can operate in temperatures from zero to 40-degrees Celsius.

Supporting TCP/IP, HTTP, FTP, SMTP and other protocols, the Axis 2130R can be configured and managed via its own simple Web-based administration tools through the use of a regular browser, and can be used in mixed environments such as Windows, Macintosh, and Linux. The 2130R has a pan-angle range of 340 degrees, a tilt-angle range of 100 degrees, and features 40 preset positions and a home-position function. This camera also features event-triggered remote image storage via e-mail and FTP. The Axis 2130R includes an input/output connection to trigger the camera and control external devices.

Because of the Axis 2130R's self-contained Web server, your digital video can be secured like any other Internet host. Using the unit's security settings, including support for username-password protection, an administrator can assign whether individuals, groups, a whole company or the whole world can access the camera. In order to ensure maximum reliability and ease of use, the Axis 2130R is based on the Linux operating system giving users access to free, open-source functionality.

Technical Features:

  • Sensitivity: minimum illumination of 6 Lux
  • Resolution: 704 by 480 pixels
  • Zoom: auto focus up to 16x optical
  • Frame rate: video up to 30 frames per second, equivalent to 460 NTSC analog video
  • Dimensions: approximately 11 x 5.5 x 14 centimeters (W x D x H)
In short, this Axis network camera is a reliable, economical and high-quality solution for demanding interactive surveillance and designed to be used over the Internet or internal networks. Intended for indoor use or environmentally protected outdoor use (the CCD sensor may become permanently damaged if exposed to long hours of direct sunlight or halogen light), this camera is optimized for use with Netscape, although Axis provides an ActiveX component for use with other browser software. Note: The Axis 2130R is designed for ceiling-mounted installation, and is a discontinued model. It will only be supported by Axis until September of 2007.

About Surveillance Camera Technical Features
Lux rating is the measurement used to indicate how sensitive a camera is to light, and stands for the level of light reflected off a piece of paper by a candle from one meter away. Thus a sensitivity of three Lux would mean a camera could generate an acceptable picture of a piece-of-paper-sized object that was illuminated by the equivalent of three candles from one meter away. The lower the Lux level, the better the camera's ability to work in low-light conditions. The camera's resolution should be greater than or equal to the resolution supported by the system's recorder or monitor. The S/N, or signal to noise ratio, is an important measure of a camera's quality. A poor camera, low-light conditions or poor wiring causes "noise" which consumes processing power and disk space. A camera with a wide dynamic range is ideal, especially for recording areas in which both indoor and outdoor light are present. CCD (charge-coupled device) sensors provide high-quality images that are less susceptible to noise. CMOS (complimentary metal-oxide semiconductor) sensors offer less image quality, but are usually more cost-effective and energy efficient.

About IP Cameras
An IP camera can be used to project images and video directly through a computer's Web browser for remote monitoring. An IP camera, unlike a web cam, contains the IP and Web page within it and can often be added to a network without additional configuration or software. Combined with a network video recorder, an IP camera can be used to construct a reliable video surveillance system.

About Pan/Tilt Cameras
A Pan/Tilt Camera has the ability to pan ("move" horizontally), or tilt ("move" vertically). IP cameras often have pan/tilt capability. A pan/tilt camera is ideal for monitoring of situations that need a continual real-time adjustment of the views.
