Many modern homes have up-to-date clocks or mini weather stations that depend on radio-transmitted data to stay calibrated and current. The La Crosse TX4U works outdoors by sensing temperature and humidity and transmitting that information to an indoor station. It can transmit to a base up to 80 feet away. The TX4U can be added to augment information coming to La Crosse units already in operation. Remove batteries from base units first and activate sensors; then replace batteries in base units and press no buttons until a display appears. Multiple sensors can be assigned a number so that it will be clear which information from which sensor is displayed.

The TX4U operates on two AA batteries. Its housings are made of durable, neutral-tone plastic. The sensor works with all La Crosse weather clocks and stations except the Professional Weather Center Series: WS-2010, WS-2210, WS-2310, WS-2315 and WS-2510. For options in wall mounting, two screws and screw anchors and a strong adhesive tape are included. The TX4U measures 2-1/2 by 3 by 4-3/4 inches. La Crosse provides a one-year limited warranty on its sensors. Each sensor comes with a detailed instruction sheet. --Garland Withers

Customer Reviews:

  • good product so far
I bought this temperature/humidity sensor about a month ago and it is great so far. The vendor (weatherbuffs) shipped the product promptly and the packaging was fine. We placed the sensor next to the receiver unit and within an hour or two both the temp and humidity read almost the same on both units. ...more info

  • My opinion is that it is cheaply made, poorly designed, complicated to set up, junk.
I got one of these for Christmas from my wife. This is a toy at best. It was awkward to set up and lasted two days. It is cheaply made and not user friendly at all. I can't believe that someone would sell such a product. This is my opinion of the whole weather station from LaCrosse. I have worked in electronics as an Field Service Engineer for over 25 years, so I understand electronic equipment. Based on the "toy" weather station that I had, I would not spend my money on any of their products. They may make good products, but my first experience with LaCrosse Technology was not good at all. It is on it's way back to Sam's Club. The TX4U listed on this page is the part that failed, that is why I am posting here....more info
  • Wireless temperature sensor
Item does finally work after weeks of trial and error to the base unit. Acuracy seems very good though, although the unit that I received was not as pictured. I am not sure the reason but hope that it is weather resistant since the location mounted is where it is exposed to all of the elements....more info

  • Replacement Unit
I can't complain about the durability of these sensors. I bought the original La Crosse weather station about 5 years ago while located in Texas. It has recorded temperatures as high as 113 degrees and since I moved to NJ 2.5 years ago, it has also recorded as low as 18 below. I'd say that's a pretty durable unit so had no qualms about buying a replacement when the original one quit recording humidity and bounced around on the temperature readings within short timeframes. I'm back and working now that I have this unit...I can't live without my weather station and the La Crosse is nice looking and works!...more info

  • Only works for so long!
I purchased this product brand new at Christmas of 2006. It came new in the package with my new weather station. I also purchased one for my nephew. I carefully placed the sensor outside. Hidden from direct sunlight and protected from rain. About July of 2007, the sensor stopped working. At first I thought it was the weather station that stopped reading the sensor. I replaced the batteries in both the sensor and the weather station. Still nothing! Today is Christmas Day of 2007, My nephew was over the house and I asked him about his weather station. He replied..."the sensor stopped working a few months ago." I said..."maybe it got wet". He said..."no, it was on a back porch away from any possible water." It appears to me that these sensors might not work for a very long time. They are quite expensive if you have to replace them every six months. Now, there are new sensorless weather stations on the market that pick up transmitted signals that can give you all the same information. ...more info

  • Works great
I owned two of these. The first one was purchased probably four years ago. The second one was added two years ago. Both are still functional, so I think this product does last pretty long. I tied one of them to the down spout near the front porch, which shields it from the direct sun in the summer. I think this gives a more meaningful temperature reading. The winter temperature in NJ can go down to the teens or sometimes single digit, and it has never been a problem. My second unit is in the basement, and I use it to monitor the humidity of the basement. Overall, I am satisfied with this product....more info
