Customer Reviews:

  • Great Game
I was a little hesitant about trying this game at first, because I hadn't liked the first few Need for Speed games, but when I heard about how it was free-roaming and you could get so many cool parts for your car, I had to try it. I ended up getting it a couple days after i tried it, and I still love it. The graphics are amazing, the driving is very realistic, and best of all you can make your car look really cool. However, there are a couple thigs I don't like, such as the hydraulics automatically disengage once you pass 30 MPH, and whenever you crash or go over a jump, it slows it down and gives you a different view, which can get annoying. But, overall, this is a great game, and I recommend it to anyone, of any age, that likes cars, racing, or just going fast....more info
  • its quite good
i think this game is quite good and can be very good fun
but it can get boring sometimes. There are lots of tracks to unlock and cars you can pimp your ride and put loud speakers
,nos, low bumpers and lots more....more info
  • Jinace
This game is so awesome!!! you get to go every where in the city and do preety much anything HOW AWESOME IS THAT! also to the kid who said midnight club 3 is copying Need for speed underground UM midnight club came out BEFORE need for speed UNDERGROUND. Now if you would have said it was copying need for speed the franchise then it would be a diffrent story. ...more info
  • Lots of Fun!
My kids and I really enjoy this game. It's very addicting. :)...more info
  • not as I expected
Whn I bought this game I thought we were going to be in different cities, but just one city makes it boring. Good graphics and bad plot. Why not put Brooke Burke instead of draws of her? You can find plenty of cars and that's great, design them and make changes, challenge other drivers and make slips. But after some minutes you get tired because it's almost the same every time you play....more info

  • The New and improved Need For Speed Underground 2
Need For Speed Underground 2 is an excellent sequel to the greatest hit Need for Speed Underground. Underground 2 is a great racing game that is rated E for everyone.
It has been founded by EA games and it has been made for Playstation 2, X box, Game cube, PC, and even Game Boy Advance.
Need For Speed Underground 2 is a great improvement from the original Need for Speed Underground. One improvement is that it gives a great variety of cars to choose from when you race. Underground 1gives a much smaller variety of cars to choose from to race with than Underground 2 does. Underground 2 also has a career mode in which you can roam around the city with your exquisite customized ride. To get your cars from stock to freak you must win races, earn cash, and tune your cars in shops,
But to do that you must find the body, graphics, performance, and specialties shops that are hidden all over the city. You can also go online and face people all over the world in circuit, street x, drift, sprint, and many other types of race modes.
One of the very few bad things about Need for Speed Underground 2 is that some of the stock cars you get to choose from to race with suck, because not only do they have bad stats but they look ugly as well. But that is a small flaw, and the fact that you can customize your cars makes it not matter. Also most of the songs in the game suck because they have really bad lyrics. If I had made the game I would have put better music. Almost all of the songs I would have put would've been of rap and hip-hop genre.
I would have also put better cars, such as the Mclaren F1, Lamborghini Diablo, Lamborghini Gallardo, Lamborghini Murciellago, Saleen s7 twin turbo, Mercedes Benz SLR Mclaren, and many more exquisite Italian cars.

  • It has a terrible flaw
I was supposed to be a great game. But action is interrupted many times to load scenery. It's horrible!!!...more info
  • Great Game
I played NFS Underground 1 and actually enjoyed that more than this game, but NFS Underground 2 is a fun game as well. Definitely more options on what you want to do....more info

  • A Great Game For It's Time
Like the top says NFSU2 was a pretty good game for it's time, the car models were very nicely done, the environments a good with lots of details, though I wish there were people actually walking the streets.

Another negative point is that the game advertises places like Best Buy and Burger King ALOT, it feels like the game is a giant billboard.

NFSU2 adds in some new features not seen in NFSU you get to free roam now, but after awhile it gets to be a little repetitive and your customizations are much better than the original.

Overall a good game for it's time, but I would strongly recommend you get Need for speed most wanted, it is MUCH better than NFSU2 and addresses alot of the things that kinda messed this game up. And plus they can both be had for cheap nowadays. ...more info
  • this is a pretty cool game
in the game you can customize your car and i thought that was really cool. i got stuck farther into the game and so now it is boring. you really have to be patient while playing the game because you have to find stores and win tons of races.

overall i would say it is a fun but challenging game

  • Great game
The only problem I had with this game. I use a steering wheel and it keeps locking up but with the game pad it doesn't.
This is a very fun and hard game to play. I'm not done with it yet but I love the cars and the graphics and the races. This is really a great game. There are parts of the game where you can race for money, or for fun and all the races are fun to play. When I need to race I normally pick this game most of the time. ...more info
  • Pretty sweet
I love the first need for speed, so when i heard that there was a second...i was all over it! definetely worth the $$$!! great game, cant wait for another one to come out. ...more info
  • Great Racing Fun, but Almost Too Much of a Good Thing
Need for Speed Underground 2 (NfSU2) is the latest installment in a long-running series of EA racing games. The "Underground" element wraps the game up in a world of nighttime drag races and super-tuned and modified import coupes ala "The Fast and the Furious" movies.

The most engaging part of the gameplay is the career mode, which allows you to build your reputation and your bankroll by entering events found throughout a sprawling urban landscape. All of the now-familiar features are here: a variety of race types, a huge selection of cars and options to be unlocked, purchased and installed, etc. There's a lot of straight-up racing fun to be found on these streets.

The graphics are really good; not Gran Turismo good, but close. The cars are especially fine, and you've got ample opportunity to examine your customized baby. You'll occasionally get a mini-mission to have your car photographed for a magazine cover where you control the background, "pose" and camera angle. Sure it's kind of a silly way to build your bank, but not a total waste after you've spent an hour selecting the perfect color scheme and combination of paint and artwork for your car.

One minor gripe about the graphics is the lack of options for camera angles. Given how big the city is, the always-nighttime gameplay and the fact that some shortcuts and objectives are tucked away between buildings, it can be tough to spot things. I feel the other reviews when they complain about long times searching for this or that between races. Another minor problem is the perpetual nighttime during gameplay. Coupled with the brightly lit and highly detailed environment, it's sometimes too much to look at and the car can actually get lost in the overall scene.

The controls are intuitive and well-designed. One of my favorite features is the ability to use the right analog stick as the accelerator and brake. Couple it with a manual transmission (shifting uses the L2/R2 buttons) and you've got a great amount of subtle control over your car. It's not as good as playing with a wheel and pedals, but it really beats the usual x-and-square two-button setup (which is also available at all times if you prefer).

Does it play a lot like GTA-lite? Of course it does; it's meant to do so. There's a plotline running through the career mode focused on getting revenge on the rival who did you wrong before you landed in Bayview. It's not as deep or sequential as the GTA missions, so you're free to do pretty much whatever you want in whatever order you want. This can be good or it can lead to a lot of aimless driving around.

The game also struggles a little bit with identity - what game does NfSU2 want to be? It's not an exact sim like Gran Turismo, although you can certainly tune and tweak your car's performance options all day long if that's your thing. The race action has a big-time arcade feel, but it's not simply an arcade racer because of the GTA-esque missions in career mode. During some lulls in the action, you may find yourself wanting to pop this out in favor of one of those other games instead.

Nonetheless, the good easily outweighs the bad in this good-looking and ultimately exciting racer. It does a very nice job of satisfying fans of all flavors of driving games: arcade, sim and mission.

    PROS
    * Beautifully-rendered cars (and SUVs) that can be exhaustively customized in terms of looks and performs
    * Exciting racing action with very little learning curve
    * Well-designed controls make the most of the PS2 controller

    CONS
    * Too much time getting around the huge environment
    * Notable lapses in realism, i.e. gigantic crashes with no consequences; no cops at all (I guess then it would simply be a GTA clone)
    * Lots of product placement gets a bit heavy after a while - meet me at Burger King, the garage is next to Best Buy, I'll call you on my Cingular wireless, etc.

  • Better than NFS Underground 1!
This game far exceeded my expectations. I like how you can just drive around and challenge other cars to "Tag". I like how there's more options to customize your car, like new colors and accesories. But I don't like how the drift races are timed and how you actually race your opponents. Overall, it's a pretty cool game and it is better than the original, though nothing can beat it....more info
  • The cars arn't everything!!!
Most people like this game because it has cool cars. The graphics in the game are horrible. The races are as easy as pie. The magazine covers make the game even worse....more info
  • The best game EVER!!!!

  • enjoyable racing game
After playing NFS Most Wanted, which I haven't completed because I don't want to lose any more cars, this game is a more enjoyable game. The best thing about it-you ARE NOT getting pulled over by the cops. In fact, there are no cops in this game. There are different types of racing: Circuit, Sprint, Drag, Drift, Street X and URL (Underground Racing League). You have a choice of sponsors. As the game progresses, it gets a little more difficult. All in all, it is a very good racing game. I would recommend purchasing both games. NFS Most Wanted-you drive by day. NFS Underground 2 is strictly nighttime racing. ...more info
  • What a Punishment!!
This game is an over glorfication of how stupid Need For Speed has gotten. How much more punishment and abuse can this great classic take? Looks like Electronic Arts and its Executives thought it would be nice to suck its customers dry out of money. Damn Spongey Execs. I thought the NFS series couldn't get worse after the first Underground....I guess the dumbas*es at Electronic Arts proved me wrong. Its a pathetic excuse for a game. Hasn't anyone else found the connection yet. Hmm lets see when NFSU came out their was a familiar movie (Hint:Fast and the Furious). Ok so they copied the movie I can't blame them its hard to gain material for a game with a long history...But NFSU2 was a big dissapointment. The overall originality of the game was non-existent. Familiar enough the time NFSU2 came out so did "Too Fast Too Furious!" Wow... Thats really ironic. The game is full of advertisments which literally drive you away from the original concept of the game. As the huge NFS fan I was this just pushed me more towards Gran Turismo. Even Nitendo racing games like Formula One beat out this game on originality and gameplay. Playing this game is like playing a big advertisment...Not really my way of having fun. So if you want to join the rest of a**holes who enjoy playing a game with cheap graphics, shi**y music,no gameplay, and non-existent originality then by all means go ahead. If I were in your place I would stick with Formula One...It has a point....more info

  • Patience required!
The only faults I can find in this otherwise great game are the horribly long load times and how long it takes to get a decent car to race with. The game is very addictive, especially when it comes to tuning your hard-won new car. Customization of your car is extremely detailed and is almost as fun as racing. The computer cars give you a real challenge in certain types of races, but you can change the difficulty level if you find it to be a little too hard at first. The scenery is gorgeous! Being able to drive anywhere you want is really fun too. I actually prefer this game over EA's newer release: Most Wanted. I would recommend this game, but patience is needed for your first few hours of gameplay....more info
