This item is not worth the cost of shipping. Let alone the price of the product.
I ordered one as a Deal of the Day for about $8. The first one died after one successful use. Amazon customer service was wonderful, cross shipping me a replacement in no time at all.
The second one lasted about three weeks before it died.
It worked like a champ when it worked, but it's not worth the effort to try for a third.
I would stay away from this product if I were you....more info

TRENDnet 108Mbps Wireless Super G USB Adapter (TEW-444UB Version V1.1R)
It is quite capable and speed is usually the same as fast ethernet. On rare occasions it needs a re-boot to connect; overall the same capability as my laptop.

- TRENDnet 108Mbps: XP & Vista compatible - fast throughput
Bought this TRENDnet 108Mbps Wireless Super G USB Adapter (TEW-444UB Version V1.1R) last fall during a Gold Box Deal, and it has served its purpose a number of times. Have been using it as a general purpose backup for notebook PCs and as test device for wireless installations, mostly where the OS is Windows 2000/XP (SP1/SP2), 2003 Server, or Vista. Linux is not a supported operating system, but the listed chipset for the TEW-444UB is 'Atheros AR5523 + AR2112', so there may be 3rd-party Linux drivers available if one looked.
This reviewer found excellent wireless connectivity with 802.11g or 802.11b networks, and also found it to be backward compatible. Was able to reach the listed 108Mbps speed under certain installations, but do remember that speed performance and coverage may vary depending on an individual network environment.
If you get one of these wireless adapters, be sure to check under the white section of the packaging, where you'll find an excellent 5-foot USB 2.0 cable. This isn't noted in the specs, and happens to be an excellent USB 2.0 extension cable. A friend got one of these and almost threw the box away without checking under the white cardboard section. Should you need longer, then this TRENDnet USB Extender Cable (5m, 16.4ft; (male to female) should do the job.
It's highly suggested that after you install the drivers form the included CD-ROM disc, you go to the TRENDnet Website (see comments) and check for any updated drivers. Installation of updated drivers will often eliminate those annoying networking issues that can (and will) sometimes occur.
Should you need speeds higher than the 108Mbps offered, the TRENDnet 300Mbps Wireless N USB Adapter (TEW-624UB Version 1.0R) should fit those needs, and it works with Mac OS X v10.4 and above, which isn't supported by the modelo reviewed here.
Though Vista is not listed as a recognized OS for this device, it actually is supported, and the appropriate drivers for the TEW-444UB are available for download from the TRENDnet Website (see comments). The steps for installation under Windows Vista are as follows:
Step 1: On the bottom right-hand corner of the screen, right click the wireless network connection icon and select 'Connect to a network'.
Step 2: Select the desired network and then click 'Connect'.
Step 3: Enter the security key and then click 'Connect'. Note: If you're connecting to an unsecured network, click 'Connect Anyway'.
Step 4: Click 'Close'.
General performance: 4-stars; functions as expected
Connectivity: 5-stars; no issues found
Installation: 5-stars; very easy
Overall: 5-stars; excellent value for the money, especially if you find it at a reduced price. Adding to the value is that five-foot USB 2.0 cable that one will find under the divider.
- keeps loosing the network
i bought this to use in my newly upgraded desktop with windows vista. it CONTINUALLY drops the wireless signal (at least every hour) - when you click to connect to a network it does not find any networks. pulling it out and pushing it back in seems to recover the network almost every time, but this is really annoying to have to do repeatedly. it is not a signal strength issue in general, as another desktop in the same room and two laptops that frequent the room have no trouble getting good signals....more info
- cheap, but good quality
this is cheaper than brand one, but it has equal quality as brand one.
i highly recommend...more info
- Very Satisfied with this product
I purchased two of this USB Wireless adapters, one of the is turned on all day. Both have worked with no problems. What I have learn is that "Windows Vista sucks!!!" specially on the matter of wireless conection. I have lots of friends who have problems with wireless conection under Windows Vista with a lot of different wireless cards and usb adapters, the constantly lose conection, their signal drops and sometimes the have to reboot. Maybe the people having problems with this item are caused by Vista.
As far as I can say, in my experience is a good product. I have purchased my third usb adapter and have no complains....more info
- An expensive paperweight
Tried this product on 2 computers (Dell Dimensions). Both PCs reported a power surge, didn't recognize the device--even after reboots and installing the driver. After I read others reviews, my belief that I wasted my money was confirmed. Go with a Belkin (what I ended up with). Superior product, and it won't end up in the trash....more info
- Works fine -- unless Amazon sends you a defective one
This product works fine, especially considering the price, provided that it is installed correctly with the latest drivers and that it is not defective. THE FIRST ONE AMAZON SHIPPED WAS DEFECTIVE. TRENDnet technical support was very helpful, determined that the item was malfunctioning, and authorized a replacement immediately. AMAZON SHIPPED A SECOND THAT WAS ALSO DEFECTIVE -- INDEED IT HAD BEEN PREVIOUSLY OPENED and didn't work at all. You have to wonder if Amazon didn't ship an item that had been returned by another customer as defective, don't you? (And Amazon is resisting contacting the manufacturer about having shipped these defective items.) Anyway, when Amazon finally shipped one that was not defective, it installed fine with the most recent drivers -- this is important for Windows XP because the drivers that come with the item are not the most recent.
So, watch out for Amazon sending one that is defective; otherwise, this product seems to work fine....more info
My internal adapter in my Dell laptop sucks and I've been using an old, big Lynksys B adapter for almost 4 years. This was too good to pass up last week at the Gold Box price so I gave it a shot. After installing the software and a couple of minutes of tinkering, it fired up right away and is much faster than my other adapter. Picks up signal great from my landlord's router in a separate structure and about 200ft away!
The only con is that every time I restart the computer I have to unplug it and then replug into the USB port. I could probably restart it through the apps menu as well but the manual option is faster.
I may buy another one just to have in my desk drawer!...more info
- Decent device for the money.
Not sure what TRENDnet was thinking. The driver that comes with this device dates back to 2004(!) No wonder that it does not work with Vista.
Once you get the device discard the disc that comes with it and download updated driver from softpedia.com instead.
With the correct driver the adapter seems to be very stable and delivers good performance (and speed when paired up with TRENDnet 108Mbps Wireless Super G Broadband Router (TEW-452BRP)).
I give it 4 stars because (1) it looks cheap and (2) installation is all but intuitive. ...more info
- Always Losing Network; Flimsy
This TRENDnet wireless usb adapter is terrible. I just got a linksys wusb54g today. This 'TRENDnet' is flimsy. You can actually bend the USB plug, and sometimes the plastic case comes loose. It is always dropping the connection, it looks cheesy, and the blinking light is annoying....more info
- Worked great for me
I saw some of the other comments and it made me nervous but I bought it anyway and it worked great. I would recommend it to purchase....more info
- USB Adapter does not work for me.
The Trendnet 108mbps wireless adapter worked the first time after is set up the software but does not reconnect on the same computer and wireless router. The software may be the problem it is not user friendly and at this point i cannot get it to work at all. I would not recommend this product....more info
