Product Description

The remanufactured Panasonic KX-HCM280 network camera can be viewed and controlled from a standard Web browser, video display, or compatible cell phone or PDA, making it a great fit for the home, office, vacation cabin, or anywhere else you'd like to keep an eye on things. Even more impressive is the fact that you don't need a PC at the monitored location. Simply attach the camera to an Ethernet connection (or router) and power source and you're set. Each camera has a built-in Web server with its own IP address, which tracks the camera automatically. The target PC requires no additional software to view the pictures, as all the required software, including control software (TCP/UDP) and e-mail software (SMTP), is already inside the camera. To view the camera's images on a PC, simply open a graphics-capable Web browser and type in the camera's specified Internet address (password optional).

It's also possible to control the camera's movement through a standard Web browser, cell phone, or PDA. Options include a 350-degree pan (left and right) movement and 220-degree tilt (up and down) movement. You can also assign a "home position" that returns the camera to a pre-designated shooting position. It's possible to register up to eight shooting positions in advance, making it easy to aim the camera precisely where you want it. To reorient your view of an image, simply click on the desired spot and it'll automatically center it on the screen. All this from a completely remote location.

Unlike many comparable remote cameras, the KX-HCM280 also offers a 42x zoom function (21x optical and 2x digital), which lets you zoom in and out in a total of 12 steps. Furthermore, the camera includes an analog video output for connecting to a standard piece of video equipment, such as a TV, VCR, or hard disk recorder. It offers an ideal means of setting up a remote-controlled video camera for a public event or for recording the camera's images for later VHS viewing.

In addition, the camera can be set to record video at certain times and certain speeds on either a website through FTP or on a local hard drive. It's also possible to trigger the camera to e-mail or record footage when it detects certain motions, sounds, or lights by adding optional external sensors. This convenient function eliminates the need to constantly monitor the image.

And by creating your own free personal web address at, you can access your network camera live from virtually any Internet connection point around the world. No matter which Internet provider you use, the service keeps your camera's Internet address permanent and up to date. The camera, which displays its footage in color, uses the motion JPEG video streaming format and varies its resolution based on the frame rate. At 30 frames per second, it offers a 320 x 240 resolution, while 12 frames per second results in a 640 x 480 resolution.

Additional features include a multi-language interface (English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, and Japanese), an image buffer of roughly 560 frames (with a time display), and simultaneous viewing for up to 30 people. The camera can mount on a desk, ceiling, or tripod and comes with a 90-day warranty on parts and labor.
