Product Description

Don't be surprised by visitors, welcome or not. The Driveway Monitor keeps tabs on your driveway, wirelessly transmitting an alert to the receiver in your house, up to 400 ft away. Visitors are announced with a chime and flashing light. The battery-powered sensor installs in seconds with its stake mount. Magnetic field technology only recognizes large metal objects, avoiding false alarms from pets or pedestrians. Sensor and receiver each use 2 AA batteries, included.

Customer Reviews:
  • Stay Away!
I went through 4 replacements before I finally returned the last for a refund. While each worked okay for various lengths of time (1 week through a couple of months) every one finally failed with constant false alarms. Don't waste your money....more info
  • GE Driveway Monitor
Really bad! It just doesn't do what it is supposed to do. It is relatively inexpensive which is why I bought it at Lowe's. I guess you get what you pay for. Goes off for no reason and now won't even respond to vehicles at all. Oh, and there is the battery issue: it takes 2 "C" batteries in the transmitter and they only last a month or less. I bought rechargeable batteries for it but these are 1.2 volts instead of the usual 1.5 volts. These rechargeable batteries register "low battery" on the receiver after about 2 days. I refuse to spend the $259 for this kind of metal-detecting monitor (such as Dakota), so I guess I'll just stick with the infrared type even with its limitations. What was GE, an excellent company, thinking with this piece of junk? Unfortunately, I didn't keep my receipt to return it. Live and Learn!...more info
  • Do Not Buy!
Wind and apparently, temperature changes, cause false alarms. Very annoying at night. Batteries have very short lifespan in cold weather which results in more alarms due to low battery state. Would not even give this system away because of the erratic behavior. Will try to recycle what I can. Come on, GE, where is your pride?...more info
  • Yes, junk -- it's unanimous
Worked okay until the about the first change of batteries--four months or so. Wish I had sought out reviews before purchasing (Lowes, $59.00). I thought perhaps I was just unlucky until I found reviews (like these). It's all sad but true: Piece of junk. Constant false alarms, no matter how I position the sending or receiving unit. Beep-beep-beep-Beeeeeep! Now what the heck did I do with that receipt...?...more info
  • Constant false alarms
I purchased one of these on clearance and let me tell you, it's not even worth $29.
Despite following all the instructions for installation and placement, this unit gives constant false alarms- as often as every 5 seconds.

I also find it annoying that you are expected to hit a 'reset' button every time the unit sounds in order to turn off the 'visitor' light and stop the alarm from continuing to sound. (I *think* it continues to beep until you hit reset. If not, then it is just continuing with the false alarms. I can't really tell since the false alarms are pretty much continuous.)

If the package had had better information on installation and how this monitor worked, I never would have bought it. I just wanted a unit that would beep when someone pulled into my driveway, as I have no convenient window to look out from. Having to put the indoor alarm in an accessible location and hit a reset button constantly was *not* what I wanted at all, but there was no way to determine this from the visible product information.

This unit is also useless unless you have a fairly long driveway. The sensor will detect large and slow moving vehicles as far away as 25feet according to the documentation, and I believe my sensor has been set off by school buses and garbage trucks driving by over 50 feet away....more info
  • A toy
It's a toy. Responds best to the wind. Misses small newer cars (not enough metal?). Stopped working after the first replacement of the batteries....more info
  • Junk
This piece of junk gives false alarms all day long. Sometimes every few minutes like right now. We are out in the country and the monitor is 200 feet from the road and still it fires off all day long. ...more info
  • Piece of Junk!
This thing is a piece of junk. It lasted for about 4 months then no amount of relocation did any good. False alarms like crazy! DO NOT BUY THIS THING!...more info
  • Many problems
I have had numerous problems with this unit. Get constant false alarms no mater how or where I put the sensor. Batteries don't last very long also. I have had to change them about once a month....more info
