Customer Reviews:

  • Vista users, especially left-handed, beware!
Product does seem to transmit writing fairly well from the pen to the receiver block, but Vista users aren't able to place the receiver block in the most preferred orientation for left-handers. It lets you choose this orientation at initial setup, but won't recognize it when you actually use it.

Multiple work-arounds were tried, including running in various compatibility modes, reinstalling drivers, and verifying drivers and firmware were most recent. A call to the manufacturer confirmed that the block for Vista users can only be placed in the center top placement.

Less of a problem for right-handers perhaps, but lefties will often block the signal to the transmitter with their hand. If you force the receiver block to side at the intended proper angle, the text will be shown slanted, and the OCR will not translate.

The only remotely suitable way I found a Vista lefty to be able to use this product was to place the receiver block at the bottom of your writing pad, then when uploading rotate the image 90 degrees before doing the OCR.

In short, if you're an XP user you get the full set of orientations, but Vista users don't. I have two computers and if I were willing to use exclusively on the XP computer, I'd be ok. But if you plan on transmitting directly to the Vista, you're stuck. ...more info
  • Great Product
Easy to use, easy to setup...Only downside is if you run Windows Vista you cannot re-orient the transmitter on the page.. Has to be centered only. Otherwise no problems.....more info

    IOGear GPEN200N Mobile Digital Scribe

The item is very helpful in digitizing handwritten notes. There is a bug in the MyScriptNotes software - the windows size is fixed, so the software can't be used on netbooks, or other small size monitors. Too bad, because it can be productivity booster for meetings, presentations, any other occasions where notes are taken....more info
  • Excellent for mouse writing or simple drawing
The digital scribe when used connected to my Windows XP computer does provide mouse control writing or drawing. I did not use the pen for remote text recognition or with the provided recognition software. I use the pen for simple writing or drawing. Otherwise, I would have to use my mouse to do the sketching. The pen provides control. I gave 4 stars because I could sketch faster than the pen could keep up.

Overall, the pen is amazing, portable and takes up very little space....more info
  • EXCELLENT PRODUCT!
Ok, at first I was all skeptic about this product due to all the previous reviews. Today I received my IOGEAR pen, and I most confess that it exceeded all my expectations. It recorded all my notes and math equations accuretly and when I converted them to text(notes), using Notes 2.1 lite, the job was incredible. Definitely a great product and perfect for collegue students! Now my mom and sister want it! ...more info
  • Does its job
Handy little thing so long as you're realistic about what you hope to get out of a product like this for this price....more info
  • Time Saver
My son is using this pen to save time and organize his school work. He seems to like it very much. The only thing that gave us problems was that the pen software kept needing to be re-installed. I would not have had the patients for this, but he is a bit of a computer nerd and figured out the problem. The great part is you only neeed to take the actual pen to school, as it records a certain amount of information in an on board chip, and then he down loads it to his laptop upon arrival home. This makes for great finals outlines. All and all seems like a great product.
