Product Description

Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub), the phobic private detective on psychiatric leave from the San Francisco police department, has his work--both professional and personal--cut out for him in Monk: Season Six. Typical of the long-running TV dramedy, Season Six doesn't cultivate any new story arcs played out over its 16 episodes. But Monk does get a little closer both to understanding himself and the mystery behind his wife Trudy's unsolved murder--the defining event that drove Monk into off-the-charts obsessive-compulsive behavior. The season opens with the enjoyable "Mr. Monk and His Biggest Fan," guest-starring Sarah Silverman as Marcy Maven, a largely benign stalker of Monk who annoys him and his long-suffering assistant, Natalie (Traylor Howard). When Marcy is accused of using her dog to murder a neighbor, however, Monk leaps to her rescue, endangering himself and Natalie. The episode is particularly noteworthy for a scene in which Monk reluctantly takes part in a go-on-a-date-with-a-studly-cop charity auction, and no one bids on him. (Except Marcy, of course.) "Mr. Monk and the Rapper" stars Snoop Dogg as a successful rap artist who hires Monk to prove he didn't murder a rival. Problem is, Monk actually believes Dogg's character did the misdeed. The story re-introduces Monk's neurotic tendency to blend in with stressful situations during a kind of mental blackout. Shalhoub is hilarious taking on hip-hop affectations in his language and manner, and he has the same chameleon-like problem in a later episode called "Mr. Monk Joins a Cult." In the latter, Monk infiltrates a religious cult under the sway of a charismatic leader (Howie Mandel) suspected of murder. But while investigating the alleged spiritual figure, Monk is persuaded by him to leave his life and join the group. Monk's psychiatrist, Dr. Kroger (Stanley Kamel), proves instrumental in helping Monk free himself from the cult, one of many services that makes Monk feel obliged to help Kroger when the shrink's son, Troy (Cody McMains), gets in trouble in "Mr. Monk and the Buried Treasure." One of the more harrowing scenes in Season Six takes place in that story: Monk and Troy are buried alive in a car covered by a ton of gravel. "Mr. Monk and the Man Who Shot Santa" finds Monk a pariah after being accused of wounding a seemingly friendly fellow tossing stuffed toys to people on the street. Finally, the two-part "Mr. Monk Is On the Run" finds Monk himself turned fugitive after he appears to have shot a man involved in Trudy's death. Pursued by a crooked lawman (Scott Glenn), Monk conspires with Captain Stottlemeyer (Ted Levin) to help him disappear, much to the distress of Natalie. --Tom Keogh

  • Keeps on Improving
As new series of "Monk" isn't on free to air television in New Zealand I couldn't wait for this series to arrive in the mail, and wasn't disappointed. Each series seems better than the last. I love the way the Monk character developes and doesn't stagnate. I marvel at the writing, how do they come up with these story lines? Would have got five stars but took one off for the dreadful makeup of Mr Big....more info
  • Great family show
This has been and always be a great family show. Can't say that for too much nowadays. Seeing Monk in Jail part 1 and 2 is truly a must see....more info
  • Will Not Disappoint

  • Monk Goes on!
The Monk series continues, and with lots of fun. The characters keep to their personalities quite well, and this is a great addition to Seasons 1-5. Why are they making only 16 shows a year?????Monk - Season Six...more info
  • Only half a season??
Monk has always been a family favorite but we were disappointed when we ordered season 6 and there was only half a season. I think there were only 16 episodes on this disc set due to the writer's strik. Although, one of the best Monk episodes on this disc is a two hour movie where Monk goes to prison for shooting a man...you'll have to watch it to see it....more info
  • Sixth season of Monk is hilarious
Monk - Season Six As a rather new recruit to Monk...my sister had been trying to get me to watch the show for years, but I was just to busy. A recent illness gave me the time. And after the first few episodes I was just hooked. I ordered all of the episodes from every season...so now I can watch them in order......and the 6th season is the best season so far. The Actors all seem to have fleshed out their characters to the point that "I" as the audience tend to forget I am watching a crew of actors carrying out a very complicated and enormously intricate script. This is probably the best acted and written show on television today....more info
  • Here's What Happened....
    What happened was this.....spoilers ahead.......

Mr. Monk tore through the sixth season with stronger emotions, even beating up a guy who had something to do with Trudy's death. Dale the Whale returned to try to torment Monk, who had to fake his own death for a while. Also, Julie Teeger got more screen time as she blossomed into a teenager, while Randy Disher was given more attention as well. The captain continues to maintain a strong presence on the show, and so does Natalie. Dr. Kroger holds his own.
I missed Monk's brother Ambrose, though.

  • Monk comes up trumps again!
My daughter and I are keen fans of Monk and could not wait for it to come out in the UK. We ordered from the US and have just finished watching it. We were so delighted with the quality of the writing and the originality of the stories. I have a feeling that different writers have been brought in and the emphasis is not so much of the OCD - However, Monk came up trumps again and gave us several hours of great viewing.

  • LOVE HIM
Too funny and always a wonderful diversion. I only dread the day when they end the show....more info
  • Still fun but starting to slow down
While I loved Monk Season 6, and recommend it to anyone, I would say that this is the first season where I started to notice the writers having trouble coming up with new and interesting stories. By no means do I think that this isn't worth watching, I'm just concerned that this season may have been the beginning of the inevitable point in any series where it starts going downhill. I'll keep my fingers crossed for season 7!...more info
  • A Gift
I don't watch these movies myself. They are a gift for my daughter and her husband. They do not subscribe to cable TV so they love to watch videos. The shipping time was perfect!...more info
  • Monk Season Six
I am liking the later series episodes as well as I liked the beginning ones. The Natalie character has completly grown on me as much as the Sharona character did. I like having this on dvd so I don't have commercials and I can watch it anytime. I think this is good family entertainment due to little violence and no adults-only themes.
Now that we are coming up on last season of Monk, I am hoping to collect them all.
